A little bit of context

RSPCA Queensland is a leading animal welfare organisation committed to the protection and care of animals. Their services span animal rescue, rehabilitation, rehoming, and public education on animal welfare. RSPCA QLD sought to streamline and simplify access to these services, making it easier for the public to connect with the resources they offer.

pain points

Fragmented Access

Services like pet adoption, animal care advice, and support were spread across multiple platforms, making it difficult for users to find what they needed.

Limited Engagement

The lack of a centralised, user-friendly system meant fewer people were fully aware of or engaged with all of RSPCA’s available services.

Lack of community

RSPCA wanted a better way to connect current pet owners with essential resources, advice, and a community that supports responsible pet ownership.

Inefficient systems

People often struggled to access RSPCA’s wide range of services in a convenient and timely manner, slowing down processes like pet adoption.

THE PROBLEM

RSPCA Queensland faced challenges with fragmented access to their services, resulting in a cumbersome user experience and low engagement. They aimed to create an everyday tool that integrated all their services, fostering a community focused on animal welfare. However, their current platforms were too disjointed and confusing to achieve this goal effectively.

How can we solve this?

The solution

Paw2Pal is your all-in-one app for connecting with pets and fellow animal lovers! Swipe through three fun modes: "Adopt a pal" to find your perfect furry friend from RSPCA, "Playdate pals" for playdates with other pet owners, and "Consult a Friend" for advice from experts. In addition, Paw2Pal allows users to report animal injuries, access RSPCA's emergency services, join RSPCA's  HOWL community forum and stay up to date with the latest news from RSPCA!

KEy app features

RSPCA QLD saw pet playdates as a key feature to keep users engaged with the app on a regular basis. By prioritising playdates, the app encourages frequent use, creating a stronger connection between users and the platform. As users return for playdates, they're more likely to explore the adoption feature, increasing the chances of animals finding new homes. This ongoing engagement makes adoption feel like a natural next step in their experience with the app.

Pet playdates

This service allows pet owners to connect with others nearby for playdates using a fun, dating-app-style interface. Users can swipe left or right to find matches and use filters based on pet age, size, and distance.

Additionally, pet profiles display details such as socialisation level, energy, and playfulness, helping owners find the best-suited playdate for their pets.

Adopt a pal

The adoption feature lets users browse through animals up for adoption at their local RSPCA shelter using the same dating-app-style interface. By swiping left or right, users can explore pets available for adoption or fostering, with filters to refine their search by age, breed and animal type.

Each pet profile offers additional information, such as personality traits, energy levels, and special care requirements, making it easier for users to find the perfect match for their home and lifestyle.

Other elements of the app
News and events

A page for users to stay up to date with RSPCA's latest events and press releases. The client envisioned this as part of their app since they advertised their events in several places but did not have a place to view them at a glance.

HOWL forum

HOWL is RSPCA's community forum where users can join animal-related interest groups. One of RSPCA's goals with this app was to attract more users to HOWL to encourage more conversation and build a community through the forum.

Report incident

The reporting feature uses the user’s location to quickly send reports of injured animals or suspected abuse. RSPCA wanted to simplify this process, as previously users had to call the organisation directly. With this feature, reporting animal welfare concerns is faster.
