A Bit About Me

Hi, I'm Vidya! I've been doing UX/product design since 2017 and I hope to be doing it until 2077 (basically until I'm old and grey). My past employers have said their favourite things about me are my bubbly personality and my can-do spirit. I hope I get to show these to you in person ;). Based in Singapore, I’m always ready for the next exciting design adventure!

Diploma in Mass Communication

Ngee Ann Polytechnic

This is where I first learnt about UX and product design and started doing my very first projects.

Freelance Web Designer/Developer

Self-employed

Using my knowledge from my diploma, I started getting gigs to do paid UX/UI projects. I even had a few repeat clients.

UX intern

Wonder Workshop

My talent and hard work thus far in UX design managed to land me a fully funded internship in an edutech startup in Silicon Valley. I got to see first-hand what it means to be a product/UX designer in such a competitive environment.

Bachelors of creative industries

Queensland University of Technology

I majored in interactive and visual design where I took on more UX-related projects and excelled in them. Several of my projects were used as samples for following batches.

Design intern
Centre for Childhood Nutrition Research

This was my first time practising UX design in a completely different industry, the research industry. Thankfully, my solid foundation in UX design helped me adapt my skillset easily.

Master of Digital Communications
Queensland University of Technology

I did my Masters to go deeper into the research aspect of UX design. This is where I gained a deeper understanding of the socio-technical process of design choices' impact on society.

Research assistant
Queensland University of Technology

As a research assistant, I now was able to be involved in UX design-related research and innovation. I even got to impart my knowledge of design to new students and teach them how to apply UX principles.

What people say about me

“ Vidya proved herself to be more than capable and was given

the lead on several projects. I know she has the necessary skills and expertise to perform the duties assigned to her in a timely manner. I am confident she will apply the same enthusiasm and quality of work in her future endeavors. "

My holy grails

I love to read anything and everything! Here are my top 3 UX design-related reads

The design of everyday things
by Don Norman
This book is a given! It was the very first book related to UX that I read and it changed my perspective on the world around me.

Evil by design
by Chris Nodder
This book approaches design from the "dark side". An extremely intriguing read to better understand the psychology behind designs. I often re-read parts of it to make my designs more persuasive

DOn't Make me think
by Steve Krug
This book reiterates a lot of fundamental UX principles that are often overlooked even by the best designers. Every page of this book is filled with useful and directly applicable information.
